Spyderco, a company founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser, initially focused on selling their first product, the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country in their Bread Truck. In 1981, the Glessers established roots in Golden, Colorado, and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife, which pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carrying at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. These features revolutionized the knife industry and defined the form of the modern folding knife.
The Karahawk, a unique synthesis of the salient features of the classic Southeast Asian karambit and state-of-the-art modern folding knife design, is now available in a stealthy all-black version ideal for use in environments where light discipline is a concern. The Karahawk's dramatic hawkbill blade is saber ground from VG-10 stainless steel to provide an exceptional balance of strength, edge geometry, and corrosion resistance. It also features Ernest Emerson's patented "Emerson Opener," which automatically opens the blade as it is drawn from the pocket. The blade's carefully engineered curve ensures exceptional cutting leverage and instinctively centers the blade's point in the user's grip.
The Karahawk's compact handle is constructed with twin skeletonized stainless steel liners that extend to form the structure of a reinforced karambit ring at the butt end. This ring provides outstanding grip security and supports the use of advanced "extended" cuts and spinning tactics. The handle's liners provide structural support to the knife's sturdy back lock mechanism and are capped by non-slip, textured black G-10 scales. A reversible hourglass pocket clip that supports ambidextrous tip-up carry is also featured. The blade, liners, and all other metal hardware are cloaked in a low-profile, non-reflective black titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating.
Spyderco is a business that provides state-of-the-art innovation and product quality while maintaining traditional values and service. The company's folding knives, with their locking mechanisms, are safe, compact, and easy to carry, and they are where the Spyderco revolution began. The Karahawk is a prime example of Spyderco's commitment to innovation and quality, offering a unique and versatile design that caters to the needs of users in various environments.
